Karen & Dan Churach Celebrate 50 Years of Marriage

Two of GCU’s furthest away members Karen and Dan Churach celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Melville Glades Golf Club along with 50 friends. Dan and Karen have called Australia home for many years but encouraged everyone attending to wear Hawaiian attire. They have been members of the Golf Club for over 20 years to enjoy the good food and good drink. Although neither of them are golfers, they love seeing the kangaroos all over the golf course.

One of their dearest friends, their “hanai” sister Val flew down from Hawaii and danced a few hulas for them at the dinner. They also had friends from New Zealand, Sydney and Melbourne attend.
Dan, formerly of Pennsylvania is a huge Philadelphia Phillies & Eagles fan. Unfortunately, he does not have an opportunity to see many of the games live. He did have a recent chance to see an Eagles contest, which was the Sunday Night Game. With the 12-hour time difference, he watched them live at 8 AM Monday, Perth time. Dan jokes that with the magic of digital downloading and cable TV allowing time-shifting, he can watch any games while sipping his morning coffee and reading the local paper.

Dan has been featured before in the GCU Magazine as he has authored several novels. In fact he just completed his 10th book which takes on the issues of AI in journalism (fake news), science and medicine (bogus science) and conspiracy theories. The title of his new book is “Turtles” and is available on Amazon.

Dan hid the newly delivered copies of Turtles from Karen so that he could surprise her at their anniversary party by reading the books dedication to her. He had written it in honor of their 50th anniversary and read it to her in front of all of their guests at the party.

Congratulations to Dan and Karen and wishes for many more happy years together.
