Robert Knapp Ordained to the Holy Order of Deacon
The parish of Resurrection Byzantine Catholic Church in Smithtown, NY experienced its first ever ordination on January 25. Bishop Kurt Burnette ordained Subdeacon Robert Knapp to the Holy Order of Deacon. The newly ordained Deacon Robert is the first diaconal vocation at Resurrection. Concelebrants included: Father Vladyslav Budash the newly named parochial vicar at Resurrection; Father Nicholas Daddona of St. Andrew the Apostle Byzantine Catholic Church in Westbury, NY; Deacon John Reed from Epiphany of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Roswell, GA; Deacon Richard Terza of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Kingston, PA and Subdeacon John Harden of St. Michael the Archangel in Mont Claire, PA.
Deacon Robert was born in New York and has been a member at Resurrection Church for 40 years. He and his wife Lisa celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary last summer. They have three children; their son Joshua married to Kate; and daughters Melissa and Emily. They also have one grandson Liam. All were in attendance to witness and celebrate the day. Deacon Robert is employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a manager in their Technical Operations organization. He has been active in the parish as a catechist, teen group moderator and altar server. He also leads the parish men’s prayer group and has taught adult education as well.
