Annual Craft Show
The annual Spring Craft Show at St. John Cathedral was returned this year, but due to the pandemic the regular table layout and offerings had to be changed.
Only 42 table reservations were accepted to allow for social distancing. The take-out only food menu consisted of St. John’s homemade hoagies, a baba plate of dumpling halushi, stuffed cabbage and kiebasi with a roll and homemade soups.
The lodge booth at the show sold bird baths/feeders made out of cups and saucers, the Cathedral’s famous Kathedral Kalache, cinnamon bread, paska bread, cinnamon rolls, poppyseed cake, raspberry and apricot tortes and a few assorted cookies.
A great crowd started at 10 AM and went strong until 3 PM.
All the pre-planning proved worthwhile as the event raised a nice profit. GCU Parish Matching Funds helped to boost the income even more. This funds will be used to update lighting in the church parking lot.
Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter Egg hunt took place at Ascension Church hall on Pam Sunday. The event was planned for outdoors, but weather took us inside for the morning. Alexandria Lassige volunteered to help fill eggs with candy and prizes and hid them throughout the hall. The Easter Bunny arrived Sunday after Liturgy to help the children find the hidden eggs. After the hunt and photo’s, the children received a box lunch and gift bag to take home along with a special treat. Father Ivan and his brother Michael surprised the kids with an edible bunny car! It was made with a Twinkie, Oreo wheels, and marshmallow bunnies were in the driver seat!
Annual Food Drive
The annual food drive for the local food bank took place during March and April. The donations will go a long way to setting up the food bank in a new location that will be easier for everyone to access. Many thanks to all who helped with this project.
Mother’s Day Liturgy
GCU members recognized Mother’s Day before Liturgy with beautiful carnation corsages. One mom was so appreciative, she said it was the “sunshine” that was missing on that rainy morning!
