Lodge 999 December News
Lodge 999 members enjoyed participating in the Piroghi Workshop. Older parishioners of St. Stephen Cathedral pass on the tradition to the younger members. The parish and lodge are preparing for the Christmas bake and piroghi sales. The parish also sells nut, date nut, apricot and poppy seed rolls and are planning on making and selling Halupki. Our holy rollers will be baking rolls over the next couple of weeks.
Oktoberfest & Silent Auction
The Oktoberfest and Silent Auction held on October 20 at St. Thomas Church has been ongoing for at over 15 years. The purpose is for parishioners and friends to socialize, have fun eating delicious food, dance and bid on wonderful donated items either from parishioners or businesses in the community. By doing this, others are educated about the beautiful Byzantine Catholic community in Gilbert, AZ. It is also assists in raising needed funds for St. Thomas and benefits outreach in our community.
The attendees enjoyed delicious German food. An unusual number of great items were auctioned off including gift certificates donated by regional restaurants and stores. One of the parishioners is an artist and she provided dinnerware she had decorated with floral painting for the auction. German and American country music played in the background.
Saturday, October 27 was the annual Harvest Fest. What a Great Time! There were so many things to do during the day, kids games with prizes, corn hole for the adults, hayrides, making s’mores by the fire pit, brats & kraut was served along with fried potatoes, apple cider and apple crisp for dessert. Trunk or treat and line dancing concluded the great day.
