Annual Christmas Giving Tree Project and Party
This Christmas season, as always, children of the ECF (Eastern Christian Formation) catechism program at St. Nicholas Church in Clinton Township, MI, held their annual Christmas Giving Tree Project, supported by Lodge 860 this year.
Each year, the children of the parish erect an artificial Christmas tree in the lobby of the church and place tags on it for various gifts for local needy children. They also collect nonperishable food items for needy families. Parishioners and lodge members purchase the tag items and return them to the tree. Children from the ECF program then deliver the items to a local agency to distribute to the needy.
This year, the lodge received a Fraternal Grant to help the ECF participants ensure that all gift items on the tree were purchased. The remainder of the grant was used to purchase additional food items. Everything was delivered for in time to allow the recipients to enjoy the spirit of the season.
The Giving Tree project culminated on Sunday, December 16, 2018, and was recognized at the annual ECF Christmas Play and Pizza Party event held in the parish social hall. The children entertained their families, parishioners and lodge members with a seasonally themed play and shared a pizza luncheon. Then they sang traditional Christmas hymns and carols until St. Nicholas stopped in to hand out gifts for them!
The parish ECF program offers catechism lessons for children from preschool to high school on Sunday mornings between the Divine Liturgies at the church.
