Parking Lot Banquet
Forced to cut their season short, GCU League Bowlers came together on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 to celebrate an end to their 2019-2020 season. Unable to have the traditional buffet style banquet, league bowlers gathered in the Holy Spirit Church parking lot. Greeted by Father Peter & Pani Michelle Tomas, they parked their cars in the configuration of ten official bowling pins.
Pre-ordered takeout Chicken BBQ was the dinner selection this year with bowling pin shaped cookies for dessert. Themed masks were provided so everyone could share socially distanced conversation and prepare for September. The event concluded with bowlers receiving their award gift bags.
Caring for Our Caregivers
For the last several weeks, everyone has been practicing social distancing and been isolated from family and friends. At this point, the overall feeling is that it has become unpleasant, inconvenient, depressing and even lonely.
Across the United States, it is the essential workers who have continued to show up for work every day – the ones who have been keeping communities running. The grocery store workers, doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals, funeral home staff, sanitation workers, utility workers and public safety personal have done a wonderful job.
On April 21, 2020 Lodge 47 was honored to provide lunch to United Health Services Wilson Hospital Emergency Room and to Hilltop Nursing Home as a way of showing appreciation, boosting morale and paying tribute to lodge members, family and friends who work and reside at these facilities.
Since it is likely everyone knows or has somehow been impacted by the sad and unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19, our thoughts remain with everyone in all the affected areas. Please continue to pray for loved ones, neighbors and friends. Thank you to the GCU Home Office for investing in the communities where its members reside, through the generous donations the Board established for local food banks.
