Lodge 271 September News
Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church in Homer Glen, IL held its 12th annual Prairie Fest Friday, August 9 through Sunday, August 11. The fest featured everything from music, art, food to education and evangelization. There were prairie & church tours, wood painting, a mini car show, pets up for adoption by NAWS Humane Society of Illinois, a wine pull, fundraisers and a great bakery. The music had a little something for everyone. The bands included Kaleidoscope Eyes, Common Allies, Five Guys Named Moe, JT Acoustics and culminated with New Phaze on "Polka Sunday.” The fest also had plenty of children’s activities including a jumpy area, face painting, crafts and a magician. Additionally, several Disney Princesses and Captain America stopped by to say hello to the kids.! Thanks to Homer Glen Junior Women’s Club and many parents for volunteering with Youth Coordinator Cathy Baranko. The fest also welcomed back Tata’s Pierogi as the event’s traditional ethnic food vendor and welcomed first time local vendor Big Joe’s Backyard BBQ.
Over the years Prairie Fest has grown from a church event to a community event. Summed up best by Rev. Father Thomas Loya, pastor at Annunciation, “It’s a way for us to open our heart and our home to the community.”
Lodge 271 has been a main sponsor of the fest over the years as well as having its members volunteer throughout the weekend event. Already looking forward to next year’s event set for August 7, 8 and 9, 2020. SAVE THE DATES AND HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!
