Helping Hands Day
Lodge 250 members, along with parishioners of St. Basil the Great, came together on Saturday, June 2, for grounds work and church cleaning, marking the annual "Helping Hands Day." Weeding, planting, trimming and mulching were on the agenda, preparing the grounds for the summer Michiganders have been anxiously awaiting. Inside, the church was given a thorough cleaning. Mild temps and sunshine were a welcome addition to the day. A pizza lunch was provided by the GCU through a special Helping Hands Day grant.
Celebrating Flag Day
“What a wonderful way to honor our Flag!” That was heard many times at the Flag Day celebration on Sunday, June 10. Lodge 250 hosted the event at St. Basil the Great Byzantine Church in Sterling Heights. Following the Divine Liturgy, parishioners gathered outside at the Flag for a short program. Flags were distributed to all attendees, along with a “Celebrating Flag Day” booklet provided by the GCU Home Office. Lodge President John P. Minarish opened the program speaking of the symbolism of our Flag, followed by Fr. Mychail Rozmarynowycz who spoke of our freedom. Refreshments were served in the banquet hall following the ceremony. Chairperson Anita Cipa, wishes to thank all those who attended the annual event and those who helped set up and prepare refreshments.
