Serving at the Manna Dinner
On Tuesday, November 19, members of Lodge 10 served dinner to over 65 people at the Manna Dinner at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Aliquippa. Manna is a free weekly meal provided by different community organizations and served to any member of the community who wishes to attend. Manna feeds not just the body but the mind and spirit—no one is turned away. After serving the meal, members of Lodge 10 also enjoyed sharing a meal together with their members. Lodge 994 from Beaver once again assisted financially to support the Manna dinner. The two lodges have enjoyed working together for the past several years, both financially and physically, to participate in this community event.
On Friday, December 13, Lodge 10 members along with members of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church and members of the community, helped to make pirohi for the church’s weekly project. St. Mary Church has been making and selling pirohi every Friday-September thru May for over 50 years. This particular Friday was "GCU Matching Funds" day for the church. The church sold over 400 dozen pirohi-potato, cottage cheese, sauerkraut and lekvar that day. The church members along with members of the community donate their time during the week peeling potatoes, cooking onions and the most important task-pinching pirohi on Friday mornings. Another Lodge 10 member in attendance was Tim Olack from St. Gregory Byzantine Church in Upper St. Clair, PA, he was selling his churches wonderful "kielbasa."
