GHRL March News
Wind Creek Bus Trip
On Sunday, February 9, forty-four passengers boarded the bus at St. John's to go to Wind Creek Casino for a Valentine-Pre-Lenten Casino trip.
There was a 50/50 drawing on the bus, loads of door prizes and thanks to the Home Office for the Fraternal Grant and lip balms.
Since it was Funday Sunday at the casino, names were being drawn every hour and one of our GCU members was fortunate enough to win $1,000.00 in free slot play. Way to go!! Hopefully, that win will bring you more wins.

A successful GHRL Matching Funds fundraiser for the month of April benefitted the Holy Dormition Friary. GHRL is currently working on a Community Matching Fund activity which will benefit the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum located in Lansford, PA. Three parishes associated with GHRL, St. John BC Church, St. Michael and SS. Peter & Paul in Beaver Meadows held various fund raisers for GCU Matching Funds for their individual parishes. The activities included pirohi sales, tricky tray auctions soup, bake and assorted sandwich sales for the Lenten season.
Go Give! Project
One of the parishioners at St. John BC Church spearheaded a GCU Go Give! project for people who need assistance during the Easter season with a food basket drive. All in all 12 baskets were filled and distributed to those who really need the help at this time of the year.
Due to the Pandemic of the Coronavirus a lot of adjustments had to be made. The Junior Bowling Tournament scheduled for March 22nd and two bus trips planned for the month of April were all canceled.
In all of my lifetime, I have never seen church services canceled in addition to all of the other closures. Let's say a lot of prayers that this virus will soon end and life will be able to go on as usual. Keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers, both living and deceased. May God Bless us all! Take the time out to say a prayer or if your church is open, stop in and pray for everyone during this stressful time.
Since there is not another issue before Mother's Day, please remember to keep all mothers (both living and deceased) in your prayers and thoughts. Also, take a moment to say a prayer for our fallen heroes on Memorial Day, their sacrifices helped to keep our country safe and free.
As always, remember, especially in this time of crisis, that dates and times and events are subject to change. If you are unsure about an event, please feel free to call Agnes (570) 454-4869 or if you are computer savvy, check out the GCU website for updates for new postings.
Hopefully all GCU members had a very Blessed and Happy Easter. Christ is Risen, Indeed He is Risen!
Until next time, take care and May God Bless.
