District 15 December News
District 15 Officers and I send best wishes to all GCU members for a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year! It has been a very challenging year with everyone adapting to the best of their ability, which includes making changes to the usual District 15 events.
Children’s Holiday Party
District 15 will not host a Children’s Holiday Party this year. Instead, children who are GCU District 15 members and who attended our Annual Holiday Party last year will receive a holiday gift via the US Mail.
District 15 Senior Award
District 15 high school seniors planning to attend college, university or trade school are eligible to apply for a District 15 Senior Award. Application materials are available by emailing Kathy Kapaldo at email@example.com. The deadline to request an application is January 31, 2021. The deadline to submit all application materials is February 28, 2021.
Please note that the high school senior must contact Kathy via email. Application materials will NOT be sent by regular mail. Local awardees and their parents will be recognized on March 20, 2021, at a dinner at Seven Oaks Country Club.
Sisters of St. Joseph After Holiday Party
Annually, District 15 officers and members have hosted an After Holiday Party for the retired Sisters of St. Joseph. This year we will not be able to visit with the Sisters, play bingo, sing songs and enjoy cake and ice-cream. In a recent phone conversation, Sister Patti Young shared that the retired Sisters are feeling quite isolated these days. All social activities are canceled, and the Sisters are eating meals alone in their rooms.
As the winter approaches and the days get shorter, the feelings of isolation intensify. If possible, please send a card or handwritten note to the Sisters of St. Joseph and/or to the residents of another senior facility. This small gesture will surely brighten their day!
Cards and notes to the Retired Sisters of St. Joseph should be sent to:
Retired Sisters of Saint Joseph
1020 State Street
Baden, PA 15005
Several “traditional” District 15 events have been schedule for 2021, knowing that the changing conditions due to the global pandemic may necessitate cancelation of one, some or all of the events. Plan to join the district in March for the Junior Bowling Tournament on March 7 and/or the Adult No-Tap on March 20. Register with Athletic Director, Bill Uram 724-287-0689 for either or both events. Participants will be expected to wear face masks.
Perhaps a few more events will be added for the Summer of 2021, which will be determined early next year. Wouldn’t it be great to enjoy a glass of wine in late August on the grounds of Narcisi Winery? Well, let’s all certainly hope! Please check the District 15 Face Book page and pay close attention to GCU Fraternal emails and future magazine articles for updated information as the year unfolds.
Very best wishes that your Christmas is filled with love, peace and happiness.
Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
