CPRL Benefit Auction Event
On June 29th 2019 the Central Pittsburgh Regional Lodge sponsored a benefit bingo for Sam Langol battling Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM). It is a rare but serious condition. It affects the nervous system, specifically the area of spinal cord called gray matter, which causes the muscles and reflexes in the body to become very weak and ultimately causes loss of function all together. This condition is not new, but the increase in cases seen starting in 2014 is new.
185 tickets were sold. There was also a Chinese auction and lots of good food & baked goods in the kitchen.
Special thanks to all those who helped financially & in other capacities to make this a success! We would like to recognize the “Crack’d Egg” for their donation of hot dogs & buns for the kitchen sales, Norma Langol for her fabulous cupcakes & Patty Niskach for her yummy cheregi.
Also a big KUDOS to Basil Wahal for his exceptional printing of signs & the actual bingo program.
We are grateful for the support from the GCU for this matching funds project to supplement Sam’s family as they face cutting edge treatment options at out of state facilities. All in all roughly $10,000 was raised.
The following are the CPRL Lodge members who volunteered their time for this event: Barb Wahal-table worker, Patricia Kutzfara-table worker, John Miller-table worker, Butch Bittner-table worker, Gerry O’Connor-table worker, John Niskach-table worker, Judy Gula-casher, Ellen Gula-chinese auction and Joseph Rhoads- caller.
