The perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the Christmas season is by train to Jim Thorpe, "The Switzerland of America". Join GCU on Saturday, December 14, 2024 for a day out and enjoy the Jim Thorpe Olde Time Christmas celebration!

Members: $20 ; Non-Members $35  *Tickets are hard copy and will be mailed to you* You will be responsible to bring your tickets with you in person on the day of the train excursion*

NOTE: Seats on the train are not assigned. We suggest passengers arrive early and board together if you are looking to sit specifically with others you are meeting up with.

*Book without worry*    We know NEPA weather in December can be unpredictable. If you can't attend the train ride for any reason, you may contact Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad Passenger Department (610) -562-2102 to exchange your tickets for a future available train ride date. Your tickets will never expire. Be sure to keep your tickets  so you can give the ticket number to the agent on the phone if you need to cancel. 

Downtown Jim Thorpe is decked in Victorian style for the annual Olde Time Christmas celebration, with special events held over three magical weekends in December. 

Join the Reading & Northern Railroad for a spectacular train excursion to historic Jim Thorpe! Your excursion will depart from our new Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station at Pittston! The journey between these two historical locations is full of beautiful scenery and amazing views as we climb out of the Wyoming Valley and up and over the rugged Penobscot Mountain! Once over the summit, the route will lead us into the majestic Lehigh Gorge before our arrival in Jim Thorpe!

Passengers will ride in comfort aboard our newly restored Crown Class Coaches featuring large reclining fabric seats, clean restrooms, and windows that open and close. Guests can also spend time in our dining car, where snacks and beverages will be available for cash purchase.
